History
The creation of Altamira is closely linked to another Prague art supplies store, Atelier Zebra. It was founded in 1990, and four years later, a second store was added on the opposite bank of the Vltava River in Jilská Street. When the founders of Zebra decided to go their separate ways in 1998, the store in Jilská became an independent business, and the shop was named Altamira.
Soon the business expanded with another store located on Skořepova Street. Shortly after, in 2000, one of the first e-shops with art supplies in the Czech Republic was launched at vytvarnepotreby.cz.
The stores in Skořepka and Jilská were tiny, which gave them the charm of adorably crammed little shops, but after a while, they became too small for Altamira. Since 2014, both stores have been located at new addresses, still close to each other and near the Old Town.
In 2024, Altamira joined the company Artikon, which connects art supplies stores across the country.
